Every Arrowverse Character Returning for The Flash Season 9

The final season of The Flash already featured several major guest stars from other Arrowverse shows, including a very exciting returning archer.

The ninth and final season of The Flash is set to be a major crossover event, featuring several returning characters from the Arrowverse. After nearly a decade on the air, Grant Gustin's Barry Allen will finally be playing his final game, essentially wrapping up the mainline Arrowverse as the last Arrow spinoff to take place on Earth-Prime work. As the season's premiere nears in early February, more and more news is revealed about its potential story and a slew of guest stars, each of whom is sure to bring their unique talents to life and help The Flash make it worthwhile. As The Flash prepares to wrap up the remainder of the teaser in the 13th episode finale, Barry Allen will join him in addition to his friends and family. Seven characters from different corners of the Arrowverse have been confirmed to join The Flash's final adventure, including some who haven't been seen in years. The many guest stars offer a glimmer of hope that The Flash season 9 will offer a return to form for the series, which has suffered in quality over the past few years year, though only time will tell if the final batch of episodes will deliver on all of its promises.

Hartley Rathaway/Pied Piper

Gone are the days when The Flash was far more powerful than his villains, and Hartley Rathaway, also known as the Pied Piper, will return in an upcoming season of The Flash. Hartley, played by Andy Mientus, first appeared in Season 1, when he used his control of sonic frequencies to threaten the Flash. After various multiverse phenomena, Hartley has been reinvented as the Flash's hero and ally, even though he hasn't appeared in the series since season 6. The Pied Piper appears briefly in the season 9 first trailer, with Barry begging him to help despite Hartley's claim that "there's nothing left to live."

Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork

With season 9 of The Flash coming to an end, the producers finally upped the ante and brought back one of their best villains, aka Bloodwork, in Sendhil Ramamurthy's Ramsey Rosso. The fearsome supervillain possesses the uncanny ability to control blood, and even used his powers to briefly take control of The Flash. Bloodwork has been locked up since his rampage began in season 6, but news of his return suggests he Finally a chance to avenge his defeat at the hands of The Flash. Details on Rosso's return are scant, but it's sure to be as epic as the original arc of his return in season 6. Batman villain Red Death. Leslie previously played Ryan Wilder, aka Batwoman, in the second and third seasons of Batwoman, replacing Ruby Rose's Kate Kane before the series was cancelled. It's unclear if Leslie's original character will also appear in The Flash season 9 alongside her villainous Speedster counterpart, but the Red Death's mere presence is enough to draw attention to potential storylines for next season. If the Red Death does appear, she could very well be the main villain of the season.

Ryan Wilder/Batwoman

Supergirl alum Nicole Maines is also returning to The Flash as Nia Nal, aka Dreamer, fueling rumors of a Dreamer Arrowverse spinoff again. Dreamer, like many Supergirl characters, has been almost entirely absent from the Arrowverse since the Arrow franchise ended in late 2021. Her uncanny powers will definitely come in handy when she's paired with The Flash, however, this marks the first time the two characters have teamed up without Supergirl on hand. Dreamer's featured role in The Flash still hints at the presence of Kara or another Supergirl character, though fans will have to wait to see if that's true.

Nia Nal/Dreamer

Continuing his trend of cameos in the post-Arrowverse, David Ramsay will reprise his role as Earth-Prime's John Diggle, the Spartan. The confirmation reignited rumors that Diggle would become Green Lantern after discovering the strange green space rock in the Arrow series finale. Since the end of his original series, Diggle has made several appearances on The Flash, each cameo furthering his Green Lantern story. While his recent appearance seems to have brought this storyline to a halt and the Lantern seems to have been destroyed, The Flash's final season may be the Arrowverse's last chance to finally transform John Diggle into a member of the Green Lantern Corps.

John Diggle/Spartan

Keiynan Lonsdale returns as Wally West as The Flash after more than two years of absence from the Arrowverse, even missing The Flash's 150th episode special In season 7. During the early seasons of The Flash, West served as Barry's sidekick, known as Kid Flash, but eventually left the series. While Wally made occasional appearances over the next few years, including a brief appearance in Legends of Tomorrow, he was largely absent from the Arrowverse for many years. His recently announced appearance in season 9 gave The Flash one last chance to wrap up Wally's story in a satisfying fashion after years of neglecting the character.

Wally West/Kid Flash

More than three years after his death during the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, Oliver Quinn finally returns to the Arrowverse for one final ride with his old friend Barry Allen. As Arrow, Oliver kicked off DC's TV success and the Arrowverse, leading to many spinoffs, crossovers, and even unrelated series around DC's lesser-known comic book characters. Oliver was last seen after Crisis, where he transcended the mortal plane in his death and rewrote reality in the process. While Stephen Amell supposedly finished the Arrowverse after Oliver's death, it seems that The Flash's ending was enough to bring him back.

Oliver Queen/Green Arrow

The context of Oliver's return remains unclear, with questions swirling about how he might return Given the character's death, it might be possible. Whether Oliver returns in a flashback, in another universe, or if he's somehow reborn, Arrow's existence hints at the end of the Arrowverse. With the producers bringing back the hero who started it all, it seems fitting that the Arrowverse ends with Oliver Queen's unexpected final appearance. While there are a number of guest stars set to appear in The Flash's final few episodes, it's undeniable that one of the most exciting is Amer's return as the Arrowverse's first hero.
