Can That '90s Show Live Up To That '70s Show?

If the '90s Show cast and crew are going to live up to the lofty expectations raised by The '70s Show's successful 8-season run, their job will be done. It's worth noting that this isn't the first show that That '70s Show producers have created to expand the popularity of the original, as the short-lived That '80s Show aired in 2002. The Show had the same creators and several of the same writers, but it never really got off the ground and received widespread negative reviews, which led to it being canceled after just one 13-episode season.
The good news is that That '90s Show had something that That '80s Show didn't, giving the new show a better chance of repeating the success of the original. That 80's show doesn't have any characters or storylines to cross over from the original so it's unacceptable Tap into the nostalgia and goodwill created by That '70s Show. The upcoming show won't have that problem, with Red and Kitty returning as part of the main cast, with Eric, Donna, Jackie Burkhart (Mila Kunis), Michael Kelso (Ashton Kutcher) and Fez (Wilmer Valderama) also returning as guest stars.
A return to the Forman family's familiar ranch in Point Place, Wisconsin also appears to be a highlight of '90s Show, as a new teenage cast will recreate classic scenes, such as the old gang's iconic smoking ring . The new show continues Fez's arc from shampoo boy in the original series to owner of his own salon, Chez Fez, in the new series, which is an encouraging sign for the arcs of other returning characters as well. A seamless blend of old and new might be the perfect recipe for '90s Show to carve out a niche for itself in the current TV landscape while also paying homage to the original.
