This Elden Ring Video With Pokémon Is What Gen 9 Should Be Like

The Elden Ring mod video shows what the open worlds of Pokémon Crimson and Violet could look like if more effort and time had been put into the game.

A recent Elden Ring mod video shows what the open world of Pokémon Crimson and Violet should look like. This mod replaces Elden Ring enemies with Pokémon, allowing players to summon and battle them in the world. The mount system is replaced by Koraidon, while Pokémon hubs are scattered around the map, especially at the back of the walking mausoleum. A darker tone is also incorporated into the video, as a trainer is attacked by Meowscarada.

The open world of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet adds many new features to the franchise. Removing the tall grass and allowing Pokémon to roam freely is an important first step, followed by different storylines that players can complete in any order. Generation 9 also took features from Sword and Shield, such as Scarlet and Violet's Tera Raid battles and wider co-op features, and expanded them to fit this new title. These new systems help bring more freedom to players and enhance the gaming experience.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's Open World Needed More

While many of the new features in Pokémon Crimson and Violet are steps in the right direction, they fall short of what they should have been. Compared to the Elden Ring mod, shared Over on Arestame's Twitter, some further additions to the game could have been made to enhance the open world feel and gameplay. A standout example is Gen 9's graphics, which in some ways feel like a step down from Gen 8. How the world evolves and the Pokémon interact with it is another notable example that could take Scarlet and Violet's open world to the next level.

How Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's Open World Could've Been Better

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's haunting graphics are the most obvious problem with the open world. The Nintendo Switch has limited the game's graphics capabilities, but other games have been able to have beautiful worlds on the platform. Pokémon is a fantasy world, so it's understandable that it doesn't look very realistic, and while Elden Ring isn't at the forefront of graphics either, its art direction is astounding. The Pokémon, NPCs, and the town itself all look good, making Scarlet and Violet's environmental problems even more prevalent. Certain areas of Elden Ring also feel rushed, but it's conceivable that devoting more development time to Scarlet and Violet could have resulted in a more engaging game world.

Scarlet and Violet's open world can also feel very lifeless at times. The best solution is Include more dynamic events for regular and one-off occurrences of Pokémon. Pokémon Crimson and Violet's Titans are good examples of this, as they could have changed the landscape of the map instead of just opening up a cave wall. A free-roaming Pokémon could push this further by doing more than just running around, like interacting with its surroundings, even if it doesn't change it permanently. The world of Elden Ring, while also fairly static, feels more alive.

Scarlet and Violet's open world systems and features are a good start for the future of the franchise. Despite the disappointingly low likelihood of massive changes to the game, Gen 9 was still a financial success. However, fan-made mods, such as Elden Ring, will continue to showcase what the open worlds of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet could have been like.
