'Avatar 2' Already Told You 1 Character Was Doomed in the Sequel

The Avatar franchise is said to be heading to Earth in a future installment, but this foreshadows a sad fate for one particular character in the film.

Avatar: The Way of the Water shows that a grim future awaits one of its central characters. Avatar: The Way of Water returns to Pandora ten years after the first Avatar, with Jack Sully (Sam Worthington) and his Neville wife Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) ) had four children and led the Omatikaya tribe. However, his new life as a Na'vi is turned upside down when some of his human enemies from Avatar return to Pandora.

In "Ways of Water", the villainous Colonel Miles Quaritch returns in an avatar body into which his thoughts and memories are uploaded. Quaritch leads a team of Jake's old enemies on a mission to avenge their loss in Avatar, but is again defeated by Jake and his fellow Na'vi, including the seafaring tribe of Metkayina. Quaritch didn't die by the end of The Way of Water, but despite that, James Cameron's plans for the future of the Avatar franchise suggest that Quaritch has a tough road ahead. However, the reasons for this are different than one might expect, and can be traced back to Quaritch as a person.

The Avatar Franchise Could Be Heading For Earth

Producer John Landau offered some mixed accounts of Avatar 5's plans involving Earth. after explanation Landau later clarified in another interview that the film will involve "part of our story of going to Earth" and that the series will "preserve all of the story on Pandora." However, there may be some mysterious details at play about the Avatar franchise's story that Landau can't quite reveal just yet. Landau specifically noted that "part" of Avatar 5 will visit Earth, which could be key to understanding the franchise's plans.

Sci-fi elements such as teleportation could be used to briefly bring Avatar 5 to Earth. Also, the power of Eywa, the god of the Na'vi, may also bring the story there via astral projection. Regardless, while this could lead to Jake traveling home or Neytiri traveling to another world, Avatar 5 bringing the Na'vi to Earth is even worse news for Quaritch. Compared to his original identity in Avatar, Quaritch is a very different person in Avatar: Way of the Water, more than one.

Why Quaritch Is Doomed In Avatar's Return To Earth

In his human form, Quaritch has nothing but contempt for the Na'vi in ​​Avatar, but when he assumes Na'vi form in Avatar: Way of Water, Quaritch doesn't seem to think he has anything to do with the Na'vi. Jack passed. In his avatar form, Quaritch can only survive on the planet Pandora, but in what he perceives as a lesser life form. In addition to being beaten again by Jack in the way of the water, Quaritch may also face an existential crisis because, in his mind, he is a prisoner of Pandora. Quaritch's relationship with his human son, Spider (Jack Champion), also takes a turn for the worse.

In the finale of Avatar: Way of Water, Spider saves Quaritch from drowning, but still refuses his father's request to join him, and Spider returns to Jack, Neytiri, and the people he's known all his life on Pandora around the Na'vi people. With Quaritch left alone, his only hope is to treat the Na'vi as equals after Avatar: Way of Water and make a sincere effort to reconcile with Jake and Spider. Otherwise, Quaritch faces a dire fate as a man unable to adapt physically to his home world and mentally to Pandora.
